The Season
of Advent

Come, O Mighty Son of God,
and bring us comfort from afar!
Dispel the shadows of the night
and turn our darkness into light.

Come, O King of nations, bind
in one the hearts of all mankind.
Bid all our sad divisions cease
and be Yourself our King of Peace.

Advent is here. The season of joyful anticipation for the coming of Our Lord has come. In today's first reading, the prophet Jeremiah proclaimed God's promised: “The days are coming when I will fulfill the promise I made.”

Christ has come. He was born to us two thousand years ago. Saint Bernard taught that the coming of the Lord is threefold. In the first, He came in flesh.  He was born as a baby and lived among us to manifest God's love. In the second, the Lord comes  in His Word and Sacrament to guide and lead souls to Him. His final coming at the end of the world will be as glorious King and Judge, when all will see the salvation of Our Lord.

Dear Friends, we are living in the second coming where we prepare ourselves through good works, sincere repentance and prayer for the final coming of Christ.

In the Gospel of Saint Luke today, Jesus warned us that we should be aware that our hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and the anxieties of daily life that His coming catches us by surprise.

Saint Paul also taught us that we should conduct ourselves to please God, cultivate love one another to strengthen our hearts, and be blameless in holiness before Our God and Father at the coming of Our Lord Jesus with all His holy ones.

Dear Friends, we invite you to join us in prayer and selfless love as we prepare our hearts to receive the gift of His Son.
