First Profession
of Vows of Sister Maria

The Solemnity of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary has brought ourcommunity much joy as Sister Maria of the Holy Family made her First Profession of Vows. Sister Maria's big family and friends from California have come to witness and share our joy on this special occasion of her life.

The presence of our Provincial delegate, Fr. Bonaventure Lussier, OCD, our chaplain Father Mark O'Keefe, OSB and Father Nicolas, Sr. Maria's brother have made our celebration of the profession liturgy more solemn and significant.
Mother Anne and Sr. Mary Joseph accompanied Sr. Maria to the Choir at the beginning of the Liturgy.

The community gathered around Sister Maria, singing the entrance hymn.

Father Bonaventure Lussier questioned Sr. Maria:  " My dear sister, what do you ask of God and his Holy Church?"  To which Sister Maria responded " I ask for God's merciful love, the poverty of the Order, and the companionship of the sisters in this monastery of St. Joseph, Terre Haute, of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel."

Sister Maria made profession of vows in the hands of Mother Anne.

"I Sister Maria of the Holy Family desiring to live faithfully with the Blessed Virgin Mary a life of allegiance to Jesus Christ, with my sisters as witnesses, into your hands, Mother Anne vow to Almighty God for three years Chastity, Poverty and Obedience to according to the Rule and Constitutions of the Discalced nuns of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel..."

Father Bonaventure presented to Sr. Maria a crucifix, the insignia of Profession and a copy of the Rule and Constitutions of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns.
