Novena to Our
Lady of Mount Carmel

                  Flos Carmeli

                             Flower of Carmel
                             Vine blossom laden
                             Joy of heaven
                             Who yet a maiden
                             Bore God’s Holy One.

                             Becoming Mother
                             Without the aid of man
                             Bless Carmel’s children
                             As you alone can,
                             Star of Ocean

                             Virginal Lily
                             A-flowering among thorns
                             Keep us holy
                             Until the Vision dawns
                             of Christ, our Brother

"Flos Carmeli" is Latin for "Flower of Carmel".  It is a traditional Carmelite hymn and prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was written in the 13th century by St. Simon Stock, to whom Our Lady gave the Scapular as a sign of her motherly protection.   For seven centuries, Flos Carmeli has been known as the prayer that has never failed in obtaining her powerful help.
