Novena to
Saint Joseph

                  Dear Friends,

Please join us in the novena in honor of

               Saint Joseph

                  March 11-19

"The Fathers of the Church from the earliest centuries stressed that just as Saint Joseph took loving care of Mary and gladly dedicated himself to Jesus Christ's upbringing, he likewise watches over and protects Christ's Mystical Body, that is, the Church.

At a difficult time in the Church's history, Pope Pius IX, wishing to place her under the powerful patronage of the holy patriarch Joseph, declared him Patron of the Catholic Church.

The reasons why St. Joseph must be considered the special patron of the Church, and the Church in turn draws exceeding hope from his care and patronage, chiefly arise from his having been the husband of Mary and the presumed father of Jesus.

Joseph was in his day the lawful and natural guardian, head and defender of the Holy Family.  It is thus fitting and most worthy of Joseph's dignity that, in the same way that he once kept unceasing holy watch over the family of Nazareth, so now does he protect and defend with his heavenly patronage the Church of Christ." (Redemptoris Custos - Pope John Paul II)

With confidence in St. Joseph's powerful patronage, we fly to him in our necessities.

When our families have to relocate, journey with us.
When we find it difficult to forgive, help us to reconcile.
When one nation fights against another, obtain peace for us.
When we cannot pray, show us how.
When darkness and insecurity overshadow us, give us confidence.
When we are overcome by discouragement, help our weakness.
When the trials of life are too heavy for us to bear, remind us that God is always with us.

St. Joseph, you gave up your will and your plans for your life when you freely accepted the invitation of the Lord to take Mary into your home and become the foster father of Jesus. Help us to accept God’s will as we face the many hardships of life. Teach us to love Jesus as you did and to love others in our effort to obtain peace and justice in our families and in our world. Hold our intentions close to your heart as you once held the child Jesus. We pray in his name. Amen.
