Beginning on the Feast of Corpus Christi 2021, the U.S. Bishops launched a three-year Eucharistic revival to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery and help us renew our worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
Saint Therese of Lisieux had a profound devotion to the Blessed Sacrament from an early age. She described her first Holy Communion as a "flood of divine joy." In a letter to a cousin, she wrote convincingly about the necessity of frequent Communion, “Do you realize that Jesus is there in the Tabernacle expressly for you, for you alone? He burns with the desire to come into your heart. Go without fear to receive the Jesus of peace and love!... Receive Communion often, very often.”
In her biography, Saint Therese wrote determinately, "It is not to remain in a golden ciborium that He comes to us each day from heaven; it’s to find another heaven, infinitely more dear to Him than the first: the heaven of our soul, made to His image, the living temple of the adorable Trinity!"
Jesus gave Himself to us at the Last Supper. He continues giving Himself to us and is ever waiting for us in the Tabernacle to console us in our sorrow, help us in our distress, strengthen us in our weakness, and fill us with His love and peace. Don't hesitate to come to Him and allow ourselves to be consumed by His love.
Let us join in praying the novena in honor of Saint Therese, asking her to obtain for us the grace to approach Jesus with complete confidence. May Jesus renew us and transform us into another Christ for the good of the Church and world.
O Jesus, truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the
altar, you transformed St. Therese by means of that
same sacrament into a living flame of love for the good
of the Church and souls. Grant that through her
intercession and by the graces we receive through the
Holy Eucharist, we too may be changed into other
Christs.
By the love you have shown us in the Blessed
Sacrament, graciously hear all the petitions for the
needs of the world and our loved ones that we have
entrusted to prayers of St. Therese, your Little Flower. Amen.
