The Holy Season of Lent

“At once the Spirit drove him out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days.” (Mk. 1:12-13)
As with every Lenten season, we’re invited to strive to be more fervent and intentional in our lives of faith. The Church invites us to make deeper commitments to fast, pray, and give alms during Lent. In doing so, we not only deepen our relationship with Jesus, but we also come into greater solidarity with those who are suffering in our world, near and far.
We can be confident that God hears our prayers, even when our prayers are answered differently than we expected. His love for us is greater than we can ever begin to imagine and this was demonstrated when He sent His Son into our world for us! Jesus came to be with us in our suffering, in our sin, or when we experience oppression of any kind, while at the same time, liberating us to forgive and be forgiven.
As pilgrims of hope this season of Lent, let us walk together holding our “candles of hope,” while drawing closer to the Source of true Life – to Jesus – as we put all our hope in Him!
